Most commercial auctioneers are willing to work a fundraiser auction when asked. Unfortunately for many event organizers, they assume that all auctioneers are the same. If you needed surgery would you prefer that the doctor have a PhD in medicine or in philosophy? A commercial auctioneer who sells cars, antiques, or cattle is trained to cover as many items in as quick a time as possible. Often they are liquidating the merchandize, everything must go regardless of price. A commercial auctioneer typically does not need to understand the items being sold because the buyers already know their value. When commercial auctioneers work at a charity auction, they use their standard, fast paced, auction call, sometimes rounded out with a few more jokes. This is not a recipe for success at a benefit because good live auction items can be and often are, complex packages that the audience needs help appreciating.

BAS regularly achieves 100% or more of retail value of live auction items and >60% of silent auction items (industry average percentage of retail value raised in live and silent auction is much lower).
